Recognizing Flawless’ pioneering work in human-first Assistive AI at a pivotal moment for the creative industry.
We are proud to share that Flawless has won the Lumière Award for Production Technology for Assistive AI, becoming the first AI company ever to receive this honor.
The award recognizes Flawless’ leadership in pioneering Assistive AI, a human-first approach to technology designed to protect creative work, preserve artistic intent, and operate with full consent from the artists and rights holders involved. At a time when the role of AI in filmmaking is under intense scrutiny, this recognition affirms a clear and responsible path forward.
The timing is significant.
As the 2026 SAG-AFTRA negotiations are underway, the film and television industry is once again confronting how Artificial Intelligence should responsibly intersect with creative work and talent rights. The decisions made in this moment will shape the future of authorship, performance, and trust across the industry.
Not all AI operates the same way.
Many AI systems have been built by ingesting vast libraries of human creative work and repackaging or regenerating it, often without meaningful consent from studios, artists, or actors. These approaches raise serious questions around ownership, control, and creative integrity.
Assistive AI takes a fundamentally different approach. It is built to work with existing human performances and creative intent, enhancing what artists have already created rather than replacing it. That distinction matters.
Flawless pioneered that distinction.
Founded in 2019 by writer-director Scott Mann and tech entrepreneur Nick Lynes, Flawless has worked closely with the film and television industry to build safe, production-ready tools that meet the highest creative and technical standards.
From the beginning, Flawless did not define this path alone. We have worked in close partnership with the Guilds, particularly SAG-AFTRA, to ensure a transparent, consent-based approach with artist approval embedded directly into the technology itself.
Flawless’ technology enabled the first-ever use of Assistive AI in cinema on Scott Mann’s film Fall in 2022. Visual dialogue changes were used for censorship edits, expanding the film to a wide PG-13 theatrical release while preserving the integrity of the original performances.
Since then, Flawless’ tools have been used across hundreds of productions for major studios and streamers, enabling tens of thousands of Assistive AI shots. This work has eliminated unnecessary reshoots, reduced reliance on off-screen ADR, and given filmmakers greater editorial control without compromising performance authenticity.
In 2024, Flawless reached another industry milestone by enabling the first theatrical release of a visually dubbed film, Watch the Skies. The release expanded global reach and demonstrated new distribution opportunities for the industry. At the film’s premiere, SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland described Flawless’ work simply as “AI done right.”
With the Lumière Award for Production Technology for Assistive AI, Flawless completes a trio of industry firsts.
This award recognizes the unwavering commitment of our team to building safe, human-first technology and the positive impact Assistive AI can have on the future of filmmaking.
We are proud of the recognition.
We are grateful to the artists, Guilds, studios, and partners who have helped shape this work.
And we remain committed to building technology that serves creativity, protects performers, and strengthens the industry we love.
The Lumière Award for Production Technology for Assistive AI goes to Flawless.
